Liturgy—The Work of the People

A relational, connected community of faith doesn’t attend Eucharist a passive observers, watching the “celebrant” offer mass and listening to liturgical musicians provide singing.  We  are  the celebrants, and each of us is responsible to God and others to create inspiring liturgy.  Lately I’ve notice a tendency for a number of parishioners to leave during the final hymn.  This shows a lack of understanding and respect for the work we do together  in the good, communal work of liturgy, as participants in worship.  It’s like slipping out of a family gathering without closure.

At the “sending forth” part of the liturgy, stay, sing heartily, stay fully in the experience, supporting one another in spirit and song.
