PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL
Goal:
To give advise and monitor the stewardship gifts of treasure that are given to our community of faith and to make St. James financially solvent in the present as well as in the future.

Objectives:

  1. Supports the Pastor to safeguard the assets of the Parish
  2. Assists the Pastor in the preparation of budgets
  3. Monitors, with the Pastor, the financial performance and effectiveness of offertory collections and other fund-raising activities
  4. Helps to develop, with the Pastor, long-range plans for the financing of repairs and renovations of property and purchase of equipment, as needed
  5. Oversees, with the Pastor, implementation of all Diocesan policies on financial matters, spending guidelines and long-range plans for Parish investments
  6. Monitors, with the Pastor, procedures and controls to ensure that all requirements of federal and state tax and employment laws are met and accurate records are maintained
  7. Increase the Finance Stewardship Gifts to the Parish.
    • Have an annual Increase Revenue Drive during the months of September (Building an Awareness) and October (The Process of Asking)
    • Increase the use of envelopes.
    • Increase the use of automatic deductions.
  8. Develop a greater commitment to Financial Stewardship by this Community of Faith.
    • Educate the community regarding the meaning of financial stewardship through various means.
    • Have witness talks regarding stewardship.
    • Promote and increase the levels of giving (fair exchange, generosity, and sacrificial giving).
    • Have an affirmation and thanksgiving ministry to express appreciation of the gifts given.
  9. Increase commitment to the future of St. James.
    • Raise the parishioners’ awareness of opportunities to continue to support the community in future generations through wills and bequests.
    • Orient new parishioners regarding their financial responsibility to St. James.

Membership
1. The Parish Finance Council shall be composed of the Pastor, the two Lay Members of the Parish Corporation and no fewer than three reputable and practicing members of the Parish who are knowledgeable and skilled in financial matters and known for their prudent judgment.
2. Members shall be appointed by the Pastor.
3. Terms of Office: Members of the Parish Finance Council shall serve a three-year term and may be appointed to a second, three-year term
