Altar Servers

St. James is proud to have a great group of young ladies and gentlemen who come to serve as Altar Servers during masses.  It is a wonderful way for our children, 5^th grade and higher, to truly be a part of mass and feel they are making a difference.

Father Bruce currently trains anyone interested on an individual basis.  Once he has met with the child and your family, we have them assist at a few masses alongside another server who has been in the ministry for some time.  This helps everyone become better servers.

During mass the children work closely with the Acolyte and are able to carry candles for the procession in and out of mass.  They stand at the ambo with the Priest or Deacon as they read the Gospel, again holding the candle.  Many times they are able to help during mass with altar preparation.  Most of all, the children are a witness to all those attending mass that Christ asked us to believe and trust as children do.

The children are welcome to serve at any mass; Sundays, Saturdays, daily mass and Holy Days.  The altar server coordinator makes contact with each family by email at the end of each month so that you may choose which mass works best for your family.  The schedule is then sent back to confirm and let you also know who else may be at the mass you have chosen.
